Dev Spotlight EP6 - Jennifer - Mintgate

July 28, 2023

In the latest episode of the Dev Spotlight series, we had the pleasure of interviewing Jennifer Tran, a prominent web3 developer and recent Global DAO Hackathon winner. Jennifer's diverse portfolio spans from small projects to large-scale enterprise endeavors, making her a versatile figure in the web3 space.

Jennifer has been working in various technical and entrepreneurial roles within the web3 space since 2019. Her journey began with the launch of Mintgate, an NFT marketplace, and has since expanded to include various technical roles and DAO launches. Currently, Jennifer is freelancing and assisting Summer Street DAO.

A Multifaceted Approach to Web3

Her diverse interests and skills have allowed Jennifer to work on a wide range of projects. From analytics and data work to community management and DAOs, she has a knack for managing multiple tasks simultaneously. Her interdisciplinary approach has served her well in the web3 space, which is known for its multifaceted nature.

When asked about how she manages her diverse portfolio and finds inspiration for her next projects, she talks about her focus comes from the communities she loves and has conviction in. She also credited her ability to handle a heavy workload to her early career experiences in logistics and her time as a founder at Mintgate, where she wore many hats, including developer, marketer, and operations manager.

The Power of Blockchain Data

Jennifer's current interest lies in blockchain data. She believes that the public nature of blockchain data presents a wealth of opportunities for developers and non-developers alike. With platforms that index and store this data in accessible formats, anyone can query the data and gain valuable insights.

One of the most valuable applications of blockchain data, according to Jennifer, is the identification of scams. Given the prevalence of scams in the blockchain space, the ability to use data to identify potential scammers is a significant win.

Advice for Aspiring Web3 Developers

For those starting in web3 development, Jennifer recommends finding a community with an educational aspect. She credits communities like Shefi, DevRel University, and Rally DAOfor helping her in her journey. She also encourages new developers to have confidence in their abilities. As she puts it, "if you're already in a room talking about NFTs, tokens, blockchain technology, you're already ahead of 80% of the population."

Jennifer Tran's journey in the web3 space is a testament to the power of interdisciplinary learning, community involvement, and a passion for data. As she continues to explore the potential of blockchain data and contribute to various web3 projects, her insights and experiences provide valuable lessons for anyone interested in the web3 space.
